Each organization performs different services; we all should belong to both!!
River Ridge Homeowners Association
The River Ridge Homeowners Association is a non for profit corporation entirely supported by membership dues from all households in the community and is run by volunteers.
The RRHOA main purpose is to take care of the infrastructure that is not the City’s, such as the perimeter fence and entrance gates and the grass cutting and flower beds of of the entry. The Homeowners Association fees were not mandated in the mid 80’s when our community was built, so we are a volunteer HOA. Newer development has mandatory fees to cover the costs which we also have to cover. We also organize BIN- days and have helped to increase the use of the park area with a movie night, music in the park, community BBQs and more thus helping show that we use the green space in hopes of thwarting development similar to what is happening in parks in neighbouring communities. We are working in conjunction with the community league on trying to stop the development in Henderson park. We are specific to River Ridge care and attention.
- We are completely responsible for maintaining the common areas in our community such as the front “gates” with mowing, gardening, watering and lighting and the perimeter fencing.
- We financially support the maintenance and repairs of perimeter fences.
- We have assisted financially with the upgrading and maintenance of Henderson Park including creating a pathway and planting trees and will provide financial support for similar projects.
- We report any need for road maintenance to the city
- We act as a liaison with the Ridge Community League.
- We organize bi-annual BIN-days to dispose of your large waste.
- We organize regular community events in our Henderson Park.
- Together we can act as an advocate on common issues and intercede when we require communication with the City of Edmonton.
- We are actively engaging with the City of Edmonton in the plight to safe Henderson Park from development.
- We maintain a informative website, facebook site and distribute a regular newsletter.
- We are a community of 357 homes; the surrounding fence and entrance gates contribute to an attractive overall appearance.
The RIDGE Community League
The Ridge Community League is a member of the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues. This organization is comprised of 125 community boards across the City and works with the city to provide guidance and input for community development, local initiatives and provision of city sponsored programs. The Ridge Community League covers a number of communities:
- Henderson Estates (River Ridge, Eagle Ridge and Promontory Point)
- Falconer Heights (Terwillegar Hill Estates and Falcon Crest)
- Haddow (Riverside and College Woods)
They are supported by membership dues and in addition receive financial help from the City of Edmonton. Listening to and promoting community issues and concerns is a major function of the League, such as the current concerns over loss of park land to development.
The Ridge Community League is currently working on developing a community center/skating rink in Haddow Park. Other current initiatives are the annual New Year’s Eve party and fireworks in Haddow, the Green-Shack Program in Henderson Park, sponsoring a forum for Ward 9 candidates for the Fall Civic Election and sponsoring Sunday afternoon swimming at the Terwillegar Rec Center.
The Ridge Community League, in cooperation with other Riverbend and Terwillegar community leagues, offers a variety of sports and other programs throughout the year, including Basketball, Soccer, Softball, Hockey, Badminton, Tennis, Karate and Volleyball. Other programs include drop-in skating lessons and snowbank skating rink, babysitting, bike safety, first aid, summer playground, summer skateboard park, girl zone, etc. The League is very ably led by Jim Bradshaw, and is always looking for new volunteers with a vision for the community.
