Terwilligar Drive Construction Proposal

The City has announced plans to upgrade Terwillegar Drive to an expressway.  Essentially the plan is to increase the number of lanes of traffic including designated bus lanes and right and left turn lanes.  The five intersections between the White Mud and the Henday will remain.

It will be many years before completion but homeowners in River Ridge will have an interest in these plans as they are set and also as they are executed.  Traffic patterns in our community will be affected and indeed the general attractiveness of our community as a place to live will be affected by this activity.

Your association has resolved to remain attentive to the planning process and through our City Councillor, Tim Cartmell, to ensure the concerns of our community are heard and heard loudly.   If you have views on these matters please let us know.

A Big Thank You

The homeowners at 714 Hendra Cres are on the road to recovery. The house destroyed by fire earlier this year has been removed and they are awaiting a development permit from the city. The family has expressed their appreciation for the support of the community including your association. We look forward to having them return to the community.

Increase activities of Coyotes

Recently we have experienced an increase in Coyote activity and predation in the neighbourhoods bordering the river valley. Coyotes are opportunists, seeking out food sources ranging from tree fruit, garbage, mice, rabbits. Also at extremely high risk are pets let out at night unattended when the Coyotes are most active.

Wildlife officials will only get involved in cases of unusual or extremely aggressive Coyote activities. Here are a few simple things that can be done to discourage coyote habituation:

  • When you encounter a coyote act aggressive: Shout in a deep voice, wave your arms, throw non-edible objects towards the coyote, and make yourself look big while maintaining eye contact. Never run away: like with most dogs this behavior makes them want to chase after you
  • Secure anything that could attract coyotes to your property (garbage, compost, birdseed, pet food, fallen fruit- see Operation Fruit Rescue).
  • Keep cats and small dogs indoors, and keep them on-leash in park areas
